Experience

Dr Nadia Samuel is a former St. Lucian Island Scholar (1990) and went on to study medicine at the University of the West Indies and graduated Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine with Honors in Medicine and Therapeutics in 1995. On completion of her medical internship, she worked for 18 months at Victoria hospital before taking up post graduate studies in the United Kingdom. Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) was obtained in 2001, Membership of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) in 2005 and Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in 2006. She is on the United Kingdom specialist register as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and has a Diploma in Family Planning and has vast experience at managing Obstetrical emergencies and deliveries.

Her special interest is abnormal uterine bleeding involving hysteroscopic diagnosis and treatment of menstrual disorders (Hysteroscopy involves looking into the uterus with a camera). Dr Samuel has many scientific publications in this area and worked for 3 years in the Diagnostic centre of Birmingham Women’s Hospital performing hysteroscopic resection of submucous fibroids, removal of polyps, endometrial ablation (an alternative to hysterectomy for heavy periods) and hysteroscopic sterilisation. She completed the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists special skills modules in advanced hysteroscopic surgery and gynaecological ultrasound scanning during this time. In Novemember 2010, she successfully introduced Hysteroscopy to St. Lucia.
